Spyderco Delica 4 Review

The heartiest of welcomes to knife lovers for my Spyderco Delica 4 review. Let me start this off by saying that I am a huge fan of Spyderco knives, and have owned more or less all of the EDC knives at one point or another. So undoubtedly I have been waiting to get my hands on the Delica 4 knife. And it has not failed to impress me. Let us now get a closer look into all its features.

Spyderco Delica 4 reviewDelica was one of a kind knife in the market when introduced back in 1990. That was due to its pretty unique combination of lightweight performance, an attractive price, and easy deployment with just one hand. Delica became the highest selling and most sought after knife of Spyderco. Throughout the years, Spyderco has made some changes to it in order to make it more refined.

Like the name suggests, it is the fourth generation of this keenly sharp and refined steel blade. It offers screw-together construction that is easy to clean and durable. The fiberglass reinforced nylon (FRN) handles comes in a wide range of eye-popping colors. It also has proprietary bi-directional texturing for nonslip use with improved ergonomics.

The double skeletonized steel liners help to further improve strength without adding any extra weight. At the same time, it includes all the necessary components as well. A razor sharp blade of VG-10 steel is flat ground, while cross-hatched jimping which is along the blade’s spine helps to improve your grip even further. The phosphor bronze washers help smooth out the action of opening the knife. Whenever it is time to move, a four-way clip offers a variety of carrying configurations.

The blade

The blade is in the form of a shape which is more commonly known as a “leaf blade”. The blade is more or less like a straight edge knife, but with a slight curve to it. This gives the knife the ability to slice similar to that of a straight edge, but to a drop point. The blade is also tapered to the sides. The thumb hole, which is also known as the “Spyder Hole”, allows the knife to be opened easily. The thumb does not compromise on the knife’s strength, and makes it easy to open while wearing gloves as well. The edge is well grounded, at around 30 degrees. The blade also has a nice shine to it. This helps to prevent rust and also makes for easy cleaning.

The steel

The steel which has been provided is undoubtedly of the highest grade. The steel has a fine grain to it. This helps in creating a finer edge stability than the other knives. It also helps preventing warping off the edge surface.

&nbspThe handle

The knife feels really comfortable, both in the hands and the pocket knife The scales are also very flat. The knife uses bi-directional texturing which helps the knife to prevent slipping while in use. The elongated finger groves hold your fingers very comfortably. The peaks of the groves are also not that sharp. This is so that you do not experience discomfort of any sort while using the knife. The handle scales are steel lined which provides it with more rigidity.

The lock

This knife includes a back lock with the blade having a wide and deep cutout within it. This allows the lock to be strong, despite its sleek profile. The David Boye dent prevents the knife from disengaging while you grip the knife with a lot of force. The back lock does not dig into your hand under pressure. This is one of the things I liked the most in Delica 4.

The pocket clip

The clip has been designed in a manner so that it is stiff in your pocket but springy when you hold it in your hand. The pocket clip is secured with three screws which prevents it from sliding out very easily.

Spyderco Delica4 Review: Our Notes

It does not take long to figure out why the Delica 4 is the most popular knife amongst the other Spyderco knives, and this is what I have aimed to highlight in my Spyderco Delica 4 review. I hope this review got all your questions answered. Let’s look on the final notes:

Summary

  • Handle

Final Thoughts

The thing which strikes me the most is the feel of the knife. The blade is centered, the nestled liners are flush, and the FRN handle is well finished. The shaving sharp edge and the satin finished blade makes me fall more in love with this knife. The thumb hole, pocket lock, and lock neck are entirely ambidextrous. This makes easy carrying for both right and left-handed people.

The choice of colors being provided just seems like a very well thought out extra benefit. In other words, it is a knife which everybody should own. It is lightweight, comfortable, and above all, durable. The ergonomics is amazing and is also not threatening to non-knife people because of its size.
